Apple Ereader The All-in-One Apple Gadgets with the Nifty Ereader App
The Apple iPad is a multi-purpose device that can also be used for e-reading. As big and even smaller players come up with their own versions of electronic readers, would you expect anything less from none other than Apple? In fact, Apple has come up with something even bigger.
The iPad is composed by a whole plethora of amazing applications that veer away from traditional computer and ereader applications. In other words, it is the ultimate gadget that just so happens to be able to read ebooks as well.
Recently, Apple just launched the iPad 2, sticking to their production tradition of launching new versions of their gadgets almost every year. Its simplistic design, with a single Home button, defines sophistication. With multi-purpose tablet computers fast replacing dedicated e-ink ebook readers, it’s no wonder a lot of book lovers decided to go for the iPad instead of buying an ereader.
And the iPad, albeit absolutely a lot more expensive than other digital book readers, is leading the transition towards tablet computers, especially with Apple’s very own ereader app, iBooks.
The Device, The App, and The Bookstore
Memory capacity and connectivity options. As a tablet, it is expected for the iPad to be more powerful than most ereaders. You have the choice whether to go with the Wi-fi version, or the one with both Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities that allows you to connect to the Internet even without WiFi. Plus, it comes in 3 memory capacities—the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.
iBooks. From the app store, you can download the iBooks app for free. Get books from iBookstore, or simply add your PDF ebooks to your shelf with just a few taps. iBooks also allows you to highlight words, look them up in the dictionary app, and even change the font of the book.
It even has this page navigator that lets you start from where you left off the last time, even when you’re using multiple gadgets. This way, you can read ebooks using your iPad and start where you left off when you use your iPhone the next time.
iBookstore. When the iBooks shelf turns around, it reveals the iBookstore, where one can choose and purchase ebooks. They already have a wide selection of titles and a good number of free books via the Project Gutenberg.
Slim, lightweight, and has two cameras. At 7.31” wide, 9.30” long, and 0.34” thin, this easy to handle and simple-looking device has two cameras, one at the front and another at the back.
iOS 4 Mobile Operating System. With the iOS 4, the Apple ereader has a user-friendly interface that incorporates sophistication and ease of use in one app.
The Apple Ereader—User-friendly, Powerful, and Sophisticated
If you are looking for something well-rounded, or a gadget that can do a lot of things, the iPad is a very promising option. You can surf the net, contact other iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch units users via FaceTime, listen to music, watch videos, play games, write on your journal, read books, and more.
With just a few taps of your finger, you get access to all the applications available for the said Apple ereader. Indeed, the iPad is not simply an ebook reader. It is an all-around gadget for a person on-the-go. The specs are outstanding, the apps are varied and many, and this helps make the iPad one of the prime choices for tablets.
As for its being an ereader, it is mostly dependent on its e-reading app, the iBooks. The app has a very simple interface. You have a lot of options while reading as you can change font size, font style, and adjust brightness and contrast in the app. You can also highlight words and phrases, and select a word and search for its meaning in the dictionary app or online. This app works with all Apple ereaders including the iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone. Plus, the app never fails to entertain with its creative animation as you turn a page.
One thing that people complain of, though, is the limited titles available in the iBookstore as opposed to, say, Amazon’s Kindle Bookstore. Also, it doesn’t have the paper-like quality that the Amazon Kindle and theNook boasts of.
Is this $499 Tablet Worth it?
Basically, Apple ereaders function as more than a simple ebook reader, and the iBooks ereader app is just one of the many applications you can add to your device. When it comes to hardware, the Apple iPad is on top of the competition among tablet computers. They were able to develop their very own iBookstore, as well.
All in all, the Apple ereader is pricey and well-rounded. It is the type that you would prefer if you want more than just a simple ereader. At $499, you get the powerful tablet that allows you to read your ebooks anywhere you go, and more. If you only want an ereader though, $499 is quite expensive. But if you find worth in all the other things this device is capable of, it is definitely a worthy investment.
