Cool-er Ebook Reader Review
Making Reading Interesting and Budget-Friendly

The Cool-er ebook reader is one of the most affordable e book readers around. It is offered by UK-based start-up electronics producer, Interead. And as the name implies, Interead has found a way to make reading much more interesting.

The Cool-er had to make some sacrifices in features to bring consumers its low-priced offer, but the gadget is nonetheless one of the chart-topping digital book reader. This is probably due to Cool-er’s successful positioning of the product as the ultimate affordable alternative to the high-priced ereaders such as Kindle and Sony Reader.

The features it lacks it makes up for through the attractive design of the Cool-er ebook reader. But what exactly does it offer?

What it Offers

1. Great colors – Cool-er offers its ebook reader in many different and extremely attractive colors, making it the ideal device for those looking for a fun gadget to provide them with their equally fun reading experience. The colors include red, blue, hot pink, light pink, green, violet, and silver.

2. Attractive design – Sporting a design reminiscent of the phenomenal iPod MP3 players, complete with the white scroll wheel, the Cool-er ebook reader mostly targets young people with its look.

3. Portability – Cool-er readers are also slim, lightweight, and very handy. Its size makes it easy to fit into a jacket pocket or a purse. It weighs only 5.6 ounces, almost half of the weight of the Kindle.

4. Coolerbooks.com – You can download ebooks from Cool-er’s online bookstore, though you can’t download from the device itself.

5. Multiple language and multiple formats – Cool-er is very flexible, even for its low price. It supports various file formats including PDF and TXT. It can also play audio books in MP3 format. Aside from that, it supports 8 different languages.

6. Low price – The low price of $250 is definitely the biggest draw for the Cool-er.

7. Orientation adjustment – The Cool-er also allows reading in portrait and landscape, though this is not automatic and you’re going to have to make the adjustment manually.

Areas of Improvement

1. Wireless connectivity – Unfortunately, wireless connectivity is one of those unnecessary frills that just up the ante in an ebook reader and therefore increase the price. To bring consumers a low-priced product, Interead scrapped the WiFi off the list. You can manually load books into the device using an included USB cable.

2. Buttons – The buttons on the scroll wheel of the Cool-er ebook reader are not soft touch, so they provide some level of resistance when you press them.

3. No keyboard – With the buttons a bit hard and with no keyboard, some users find navigation a bit of a challenge. This also means you cannot do searches within ebooks.

4. Computer-like font – The font of the Cool-er is not like the printed font type of the Kindle, but instead looks like a digital font, which could be a preference problem for some.

The Verdict

The Cool-er ebook reader does come cheap, especially when you consider the limitations of the device. Fortunately, the Cool-er is still usable and still offers high-quality paper-like screen with its E-ink display.

It even exceeds the portability of the Kindle. And besides, reading is also still comfortable with the 6-inch screen. Despite the limitations of the device, overall, it is a great investment for those who can’t afford the pricier reading gadgets.
