Ebook Reader Reviews
Your Partner in Choosing Your Digital Reading Partner

Ebook reader reviews are very useful for those looking to buy digital book readers.

These reviews are excellent sources of complete and useful information about these reading devices, and the information provided go beyond the technical specifications but also pores over important usage details.

So if you are in the market for a reading gadget, you should take the time to read ebook reader reviews. These will help lead you to the best choices in the market, and you can then base your final choice on solid and trusted information rather than just advertising claims.

There are many sources for these reviews online, so it is often a good idea to do your research at home before going to the store. In fact, you may even consider buying online for your own convenience. Either way, you should allot some time for reading reviews so you will be more confident about your purchase decision.

Choosing The Best: What to Consider

But before anything else, you should take note of the important aspects that you should consider. In reading ebook reader reviews, there is a danger that you will get far too much information. Don’t let this steer you from the most important factors you should consider in buying an e book reader.

Size and portability – You should consider the size and portability of your ebook reader based on how portable you need it to be. If you are constantly on the go and prefer one that won’t take up much space and weight in your medium-sized bag, the smaller, thinner models will do. But if you prefer larger and more comfortable screens and don’t mind the extra in size, you can choose the bigger models.

Supported formats – One of the most important things to consider is whether the ebook reader supports the format of the ebooks you have or are planning to avail of. It would be great to choose a reader with its own content service. This should also be supported by a large memory capacity so all your ebooks can be accommodated.

Special features – You may want to keep an eye out for special features such as font size adjustment, flexible reading orientation, wi-fi connectivity, audiobook and image support, and support for newspapers, magazines, or blogs.

The Reviews Hail the Top Five

Kindle DX - Latest Generation (9.7" Display, Wireless U.S.)

The Amazon Kindle DX is one of the most popular ebook readers recommended by most ebook reader reviews from consumers and experts. Priced at mid-range, it offers a meticulously impressive reading experience and a quality several consumers can attest to. At around $500, it already offers an advanced package that offers good content support and a range of top-of-the-line features.

In content, the Kindle DX has a Dedicated Content Service and can also read newspapers, magazines, and blogs. It can support various file formats including Kindle (AZW), PDF, TXT, MOBI, and PRC, as well as convertible formats DOC, HTML, and RTF. It can also play audio books in MP3, Audible, and AAX formats. It can also support images in JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP formats.

In features, its most impressive are the Text to Speech, the 3G, Whispernet connectivity options, the high-res 1200x824 screen, 2-week battery life, 16 grayscale levels, and its above-standard 4 GB memory capacity, which makes it the ideal partner for the ferocious reader.

Kindle 2 - Latest Generation (6" Display, Global Wireless)

For those who want nothing less than the most phenomenal ebook reader, the Kindle from Amazon, but can’t afford the Kindle DX, there’s the Amazon Kindle 2, another favourite among ebook reader reviews.

The Kindle 2 offers practically the same package as the DX, except for its 2 GB memory and its lower resolution of 600 x 800. It also cannot support PDF as a primary document format, but is supported in convertible format. These are minor downgrades, however, so you still get one of the best deals for its under $250 price tag.

The most important features, after all, are retained. These include the E-ink screen, the 3G and Whispernet connectivity options, and the 2-week battery life. It can also support MP3 and Audible audio books as well as converted JPEG, GIF, BMP, and PNG images.

The Kindle 2 is smaller than the Kindle DX, so it is more portable though some people still find the 9.7-inch screen of the DX more comfortable.

Sony PRS-700 with Touch Screen

The Sony Reader PRS-700 is a high-end reader priced at $800. It also has a Dedicated Content Service and can read blogs as well, though it does not have the same newspaper and magazine support as the Kindle. It is smaller at 6.9 x 4.9 inches but has a 6-inch screen, so it has less unnecessary space around the screen, thanks to its touch screen feature that eliminates the need for navigation controls.

Its battery life can also last for 2 weeks, requiring only 1 to 2 hours of recharge, supporting a wide range of ebook formats including BBeB Book formats as well as MP3 and AAC audiobooks and the usual image formats.

The PRS-700 from Sony, however, does have some limitations, such as its 8 grayscale levels and lower memory capacity of only 420 MB. It also does not have wireless connectivity. Its price and the advanced touch screen feature make it the perfect reading companion for the travelling professional as ebook reader reviews will attest to.

iRex Digital Reader

One of the high-end offers is the iRex Digital Reader, which offers several unique record features that justifies its $860 price tag. Although it does not have a Dedicated Content Service, it can support newspapers, magazines, blogs, and a wide range of document formats including PDF, TXT, HTML, MOBI, and PRC. Even though it cannot support audiobooks, it can support JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and even TIFF images.

This is also the ideal option for those who prefer larger screens with its 10.2-inch touch screen with E-ink technology, though the larger screen does add to the weight of the unit, which is 20.1 ounces, making it one of the heaviest around. The iRex Reader is also powered for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a plus that other ebook readers do not have. It also has the market’s highest resolution of 1280 x 1024, which makes up for its standard 1 GB memory capacity.

Though not the handiest digital reading device, the iRex Digital Reader always get good ebook reader reviews.

Astak EZ Reader 5-inch Pocket Pro

Priced at mid-range and considered fairly affordable, the Astak EZ Reader is a reasonable buy. The key factor of the Astak EZ Reader is that it offers one of the market’s widest range of supported document formats. It can support PDF, DOC, MOBI, TXT, and even PPT files. It can also preview most image formats including TIFF images.

As a bonus, it can play MP3 audiobooks as well. One limitation, and a rather major one, is that it can only hold up to 32 MB of memory, so you may only load a few files at once. The Astak EZ Reader, however, gets good reviews for its size and weight. It has a 6-inch screen in a 7.2 x 4.8 body, and only weights 7.8, making it one of the lightest in the market.

Its battery can also last over 2 weeks, though it only has 4 grayscale levels. This is not the best package around, and buyers can already avail of the Kindle 2 at around the same price. But if you specifically need a reader that can support more flexible document formats including PPT files, this is the only reader ebook reader reviews trust.

The Reviews You Can Trust

There are two different types of ebook reader reviews around: expert reviews and consumer reviews. Expert reviews are written by industry experts and usually critique the features and technical specifications and are usually focused on comparisons. These reviews are reliable sources of information that can help you compare different e-readers based on the quality standards set by the industry.

On the other hand, ebook reader reviews from consumers are written by actual consumers who have used the specific reader you are considering. These offer accurate information about the usage of the product, so you can gauge whether the product is right for you.
