Kindle 3 Review What’s the Real Deal?
The Kindle 3 is the most-rumored addition to Amazon’s world-famous line of ebook readers. The 3rd generation of the highly popular Kindle readers has been predicted and rumoured for so long. Several stories have been released about what might be the next masterpiece from Amazon.
Rumors of a touch screen and of some secret feature that’s said to take the digital book reading world by storm have surfaced since industry experts assumed the creation of the Kindle 3 to follow the natural progression set off by the Kindle 1 and the Kindle 2.
However, as of press time, Amazon has released no word about a Kindle 3, and has instead come out with the Kindle DX, a larger Kindle but with basically the same features and the same built-in keyboard.
The Big Difference
As people continue to speculate the release of a 3rd generation Kindle, one big difference that users expect from the Kindle 3 is its use of a much larger screen, which will be around 8.5 x 11 inches in size. This is a huge upgrade considering that the first two versions of the device both had 6-inch screens. This size increase, however, is exactly what the Kindle DX offered.
The idea behind the size expansion is to expand users’ reading experiences by allowing them enough space to read newspapers, magazines, and even textbooks. This is the rumored objective of the 3, which is believed by many to be the saving grace of the falling industry of newspapers. The new Kindle, therefore, will most likely target businesspeople and students rather than literary fans.
Industry experts, however, believe that if Amazon does come out with a larger Kindle, it will be Amazon’s way of responding to the larger screens released by other digital book reader brands such as Fujitsu and Plastic Logic.
Although the competing products had basically the same display technology and didn’t even have Amazon’s ingenious wireless connectivity, the Kindle 1 and Kindle 2 came out looking battered and left behind with its limited screen space.
The Newest Additions
Amazon is also expected to add a new milestone to its collection. The 3 is expected to have a touch screen that will rival the latest models released by competitors. In the past two generations of the Kindle, the built-in keyboard looked ancient and took up a lot of space. It was a popular target for critics, so Amazon does away with it as well, resulting to a much cleaner full-screen look.
The Kindle Trademark
Some things, however, will never change. Most of the rumoured changes focus on the physical appearance of the Kindle rather than on its capabilities. Regardless of what changes will be made to the Kindle Three, the device will still offer excellent storage capacity, long battery life, and the same E-ink display.
Amazon’s Whispernet wireless connectivity will surely be part of the package so that users will still be able to shop for and download ebooks from the Kindle ebook store wherever they may be.
Kindle DX is Kindle 3?
Despite reports that vary in content, most people believe that the Kindle DX is already the 3rd generation of the kindle. After all, the Kindle 2 was only recently released, so Amazon will certainly not come out with a 3rd generation before the 2nd generation has reached its maximum potential.
What it did to cater to those who need larger screens is to offer a larger product under an entirely new name, the Kindle DX. Regardless of whether the DX is already the 3rd generation, the price hike, which raises the price of the Kindle, certainly implies an important upgrade.
