The Help by Kathryn Stockett is one of the most advertised ebooks in Amazon’s Kindle store. I love reading and I am a regular customer of ebooks for my Kindle, so The Help immediately caught my eye.
I bought the Kindle edition for $9.77.The book received a lot of reviews plus a 5-star rating on the store, so I knew I was in for a good read, and I was right.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett is set in the early sixties and centers on the life of Sketter, a young white woman who set out to discover the lives of the black women that the white families employed as maids.
Basically, The Help by Kathryn Stockett book talks about racial discrimination in the past. It tells about the hardships and abuses endured by the black women through various stories. While reading, I was touched by how they were heartbreakingly treated in a house where they were discriminated because of their skin color and by how they tried to rise above their difficulties.
Kathryn Stockett vividly described the details of these hardships and how the white ladies find something to complain and harass the black maids for. The author also delivered the strong and humble personalities of the black maids very well that I really sympathized with them.
I also loved how Stockett managed to insert some humor into the narrative, so when I read, the tear-jerking moments were lightened up a bit that the book, though quite sad, didn’t really leave a negative feeling when I put my ereader down.
This is one of the most significant reads I’ve encountered lately, and I highly recommend it to all book lovers, especially Kindle owners since The Help by Kathryn Stockett is available at a great price from Amazon.
